Character: a short route along the water’s edge

Sometimes you don’t need a long route at all. The Lakeside Path is our recommendation for anyone who wants to get some exercise and get to know the immediate surroundings of Lake Templin at the same time. From the Kongresshotel, the route follows the R1 northwards. Along the way, you’ll pass the bandstand, the Olympic Training Centre, the marina and the sailing club, amongst other things. The route then heads towards Zeppelinstraße and Geltow, before returning to the R1 via Kastanienallee. From there, follow the path along Lake Templin back to the hotel.

Our tip: Still have some energy left? Then follow the R1 further towards Potsdam city centre and simply extend your tour.

Character: culture and sightseeing Visiting Potsdam without experiencing Sanssouci? For many, that’s almost unimaginable. This route combines exercise with some of the city’s best-known sights, leading from the Kongresshotel Potsdam to the famous parkland of Sanssouci. Along the way, you’ll come across, amongst other things, the New Palace, the Dragon House, the Orangery, the Historic Mill, Sanssouci Palace and the famous vineyard terraces.

Route map

From the Kongresshotel, cycle along Zeppelinstraße and Forststraße towards Kaiserbahnhof. From there, the tour continues to the New Palace and into the Sanssouci parklands. Via Maulbeerallee and the area around Sanssouci Palace, the route then heads back towards the New Palace and Kaiserbahnhof, and finally returns to the hotel.

Please observe the local rules for cycling in Sanssouci Park and use only the designated cycle paths.

Character: water, nature and city

Lake or city? On this cycle tour, you don’t have to choose. The route leads from the Kongresshotel initially southwards to the railway bridge over Lake Templin. After crossing the bridge, the route heads north again along the water’s edge. You’ll pass Hermannswerder Island and Potsdam’s Speicherstadt. By the time you reach the Lange Brücke, the scenery changes: the tranquil lakeside landscape gives way to Potsdam. From here, views open up towards the historic city centre, before the route takes you back to the Kongresshotel via Breite Straße and Zeppelinstraße.

Our tip: Allow a little extra time if you’d like to combine the tour with a detour into Potsdam city centre.

Suitable for: cycling

Character: woodland and lake landscape

Get out of the city and into the countryside: this cycle route to Lake Caputh showcases a particularly unspoilt side of the region around Potsdam. From the Kongresshotel, the route first runs alongside Templiner See and then crosses the railway bridge towards Caputh. After passing through Caputh, you’ll reach Caputher See. Forest paths, water and peaceful stretches characterise much of this tour. After circling the lake, the route takes you back towards the Kongresshotel via the railway bridge in Caputh and various forest paths.

Our tip: Take some time out for a break by the water. Lake Caputh in particular offers the perfect opportunity to hop off your bike for a moment and enjoy the lake landscape.

More distance, more woodland, more nature: our tour through Wildpark West is highly recommended for anyone wishing to go on a slightly longer cycle ride during their stay. From the Kongresshotel Potsdam, the route first heads towards Zeppelinstraße and then along forest paths towards Caputher See. Via Chausseestraße and the railway bridge in Caputh, the route continues towards Schwielowseestraße and the Rote Brücke. The route then takes you along forest paths and the Rohrweg into the Potsdam Forest and the Havel Lakes area. From there, you’ll head back to the hotel.
